Vijay Singh is one of the leading golf players at the moment, having held onto the ‘world’s number 1 golfer position’ for more than five months between the end of 2004 and beginning of the year 2005.
Vijay is a Fijian, and is arguably the world’s best known Fijian player of any sport. Indeed, he could just as well be the world’s best known Fijian by all accounts. He doesn’t reside in this country of birth though: he has made for himself a base in the American state of Florida.
His almost gigantic stature (for he stands at more than 6’ 2’’ weighing more than 100 kilograms) has earned him the nickname of the ‘huge Fijian.’
At 46 years of age (he was born in 1963), Vijay has considerable golfing experience. Even at professional level, is experience is still notable, with him having turned into a professional golfer at the age of 19, way back in 1982.
As a recognition for his considerable exploits in this sport, Vijay was in 2006 inducted into the Golfing world hall of fame (to which only the very finest get a place.) Although he would be considered ‘old’ for many other sports, Vijay can definitely chip in up to a decade more of golfing; for this is one sport in which skill, rather than age, is what determines who gets what.
